First of all after reading other comments, I want to make sure that everyone understand what summer hotel mean in Finland. It is open just in summer (usually June-August), other times there is students who live there. Because it is other times home for students, it is cheap hotel.||So if you want better hotel, you should not look summer hotels ;)||||Next my experience:||I was looking hotel what is cheap and near university of applied sciences - this was cheapest hotel where was still rooms when I booked it. I was there just one night, and it was good place to stay short time.||I wanted quiet room from upper level, but unfortunately there was just first floor room available.||Some colors would definitely make rooms look nicer! In my mind, it looked little bit like some hospital room ;D||Anyways it was clean, and there were also small kitchen with fridge.||||Room wasn't that quiet what I was waiting for.. there was some weird loud voice - I don't know did it came from some air conditioner or fridge or something else..||Also there is big window what you can cover with Venetian blinds, but under the bigger window there is smaller one and that one you can't cover with anything. Well there is also drapes, but because bed is just next to window - there will come some lights even if you put drapes to cover small window..||It would be good to have some phone in the room (as hotel normally have), actually there was phone, but it was in closet (and probably wasn't in use). Because some people might want wake up call, so they could have it - if there would be phone.||--> after all I got pretty good dreams:D||||About hotel reception, I have just positive things to say! 🙂 No one, from any hotel, has not called me hours before I come and ask if I know my estimated arrive time and if I know how to get there.||||So how to get there: You need to take bus number 18 from Vapaudenkatu station number 6 (just next to shopping mall called Forum), bus should go forward Kortepohja, and you should leave the bus at Taitoniekantie. Bus is just 3€. I highly recommend to ask from bus driver where to leave a bus, because otherwise same can happen as for me -- and you are finally back to where you went to bus ... 😀 buses are coming every 30min.||And if you want to walk - it takes maybe 40min from city, or shorter if you walk faster and not get lost ;)||And with taxi it is almost 15€ (at evening).||||Oh and breakfast is also normally included in price. It is not some fancy breakfast, it is small: bread, cereals, vegetables, porridge, milk, juice, coffee - like a normal homemade breakfast in Finland 🙂 ||||And btw you can't make reservation directly from webpage. Recommend to call or send email (by phone it can be easier and faster). Or why not book from booking.com or something like that :D||I don't recommend to try to reach them with the file what you can find from their internet site.. it can take looooong time when they answer (if they answer).

The temperature inside the room and on the hallways was very very high. The big window could not be opened, only a very small one that made no difference at all. The bathroom had no ventilation so during showers the air got very hot and steamy. ||Also, the fire escape stairs were extremely dirty. ||On the upside, the hotel is near a forest and a lake so the view was pretty nice.

This was the cheapest accomodation I could find in Jyvaskyla...and now I understand why!||||first of all making a reservation for someone that is not from Finland and does not speak Finnish (no offense, but I think the majority of the population) was already an odissey...I finally decided to call instead of writing (also because they were not answering) and when I got there I was told I made two reservations (luckily they where nice enough to "delete" the second one).||||The position was not so good but never mind...||My room was certainly not used for a while as when I turned on the shower the water was yellow and there was a bad smell of closed space. The room was spacious BUT the curtains where so tiny that they could not cover half of the window (and when I was there there was light almost the whole time).||||Breakfat was poor and in the hotel there was only one computer with a very slow internet connection. For 60 euros x night someone would expect something more...

When I looked those comments - meny quite negative - here and at booking.com I decided to try to explain why summer hotel Rentukka was at least ok, as a matter of fact quite nice place for me. ||||First of all, I have been living there when studying about five years so I know exactly what to expect. OK, ok, there is also nostalgy for me. ||||But I do not want to spend quality time at my hotel room; and rooms at Rentukka, Kortepohja student village buildings, are spacious, bright and with own shower and small kitchenette. Rooms are minimalistic: one bed, one table, one chair. OK for me, because mostly I spend my time and have my activities outdoors.||||I have been travelling quite a lot because of my work and I can guarantee that the worst places for example in Milan or in Athens or in Paris have really been a lot worse than Rentukka.||||And + points are to my mind also nice and helpful staff, god breakfast and excellent bus connections to the centre.||||Only - points I can imagine are lack of kitchenwares, heat in hot summer nights and lack of TV in rooms. But, normally when I travel in hostels or B&B:s I carry with me small kettle & mug, portable fan and small table radio. All together about 25 euro and 1 kilo, and those items have helped me a lot.||||If I would wish something it is to have the Bar Rentukka open also evenings in summer, at least a small terrace pub outside the restaurant building (as there was some years ago). And maybe some kitchenware for rooms…||||In few words, this minimalistic nostalgia suits me, also in this summer when I´m going to visit Jyväskylä again.

They really took advantage of rally spectators, 440€/4nights with this quality. Room built 1970 and it was easy to see and feel. Rough room, extremely noisy toilet. Luckily shower was better and beds rather good. ||Elevator was broken, other was often stucked open by regular inhabitants (student village). Breakfast was Fri-Sun served too late for spectators, on Thu we noticed its low quality. Not any flexibility by organisation (though reception on Thursday was friendly, but could not help)||Very noisy area, fire brigade visits there regularily. Parking is quite a chaos.||Never again

We booked a double room with kitchen for two nights. What we got was a very worn vacant student dorm room with three single beds, three large worn towels, a small table/desk and two vinyl chairs. The kitchen had a small stove with oven and fridge. No dishes or utensils and nothing to cook in. The place smells like a hospital and the linoleum floor looks like it's been through a war. The one thing that I was surprised at was there is no TV. (Or wifi) After walking around all day, I like to put my feet up and watch TV. Let the young ones go out in the evening, not for me. For the extra cost of the taxi ride here and back to the train station, we could've had something decent closer to the centre. I'm not pleased that there was no information on the web sites booking this place about no dishes or TV and it was advertised as a hotel rather than college accomodation.

I've stayed in cheap accommodation in Africa and Asia, and this was the worst place I've stayed in by far. I do not have high standards for hotels, but I left after just 2 nights.||||Advertises a kitchenette, but doesn't provide any pots, pans, bowls, cutlery etc. There's no point in having an oven if you have nothing to cook with. Do they expect people on holiday to have packed a wok in their suitcase? There's not even a kettle to boil water with.||||Claims a hairdryer could be borrowed from reception but one wasn't available until 24 hours later, so had to go out with wet hair.||||No wifi in the rooms.||||No hand towel or bin in the bathroom.||||The entire room smelt like feet, and the fridge/kitchen cupboards in particular smelt very bad.||||No AC in the hot summer months.||||The whole thing just looked dismal and had a very grubby feel.

This is an underperforming budget hotel, operating only summertime. It is located in a totally uninspiring suburb, and is not within walking distance from the city centre. The hotel facilities are from the 1970s and used as student flats in the winter. ↲We paid 64 euros for a double room, which is almost the same price as in one of the decent hotels downtown. The major shortcoming of this hotel is the rooms: worn down rooms, basically furnitured with the beds and nothing else. In our room there was nothimg: not a picture or clock on the wall, not a carpet on the plastic floor, no television set and just one plastic chair in a room for two people. Dont expect wireless or even a simple telephone in your room!↲Breakfast is served in a dark bar area smelling of old beer. The space had not been properly cleaned during the night - floors and tables were still sticky from drinks.↲This summer hotel is bad deal even for a budget traveller and should be avoided!
